Slewing Drive Maintenance Guide for Construction Machinery: Extend Life and Ensure Operational Safety

Image
In the field of construction machinery, slewing drive , as the core component of the rotary positioning of the lifting arm, has become the first choice of equipment that needs to be stopped instantly by virtue of its self-locking advantage. However, most of the construction machinery in the dust, mud and water, high and low temperatures and other harsh working conditions for a long time, the slewing drive is prone to wear and tear of parts, jamming, abnormal noise and other failures, seriously affecting the operational efficiency and safety of the equipment. Do a good job of rotary drive maintenance, is to reduce the incidence of failure, extend the service life of the equipment is the key, specific can be carried out from the following aspects.  👉Daily inspection: timely detection of potential hazards Daily inspection is the basis of rotary drive maintenance, to be carried out in stages before the start of the equipment, the operation, after the shutdown. Before starting, focus o...

What are the maintenance tasks for the slewing drive?

Image
The wear and tear of the gear teeth can cause rotation clearances in the worm screw. It is therefore necessary to check that rotation after 700 hours of operation or every 6 months, so as not to exceed approximately 20° of free rotation.  In order to measure that rotational clearance, the motor must be disconnected and the screw turned manually, measuring the angle rotated by the screw with respect to a previously specified starting position.  The previously specified inspection interval must be reduced to 200 hours of operation if the clearance reaches approximately a 15° rotation. Should the clearance continue to increase, the inspection should be reduced to 50-100 hours of operation, and in the event that it exceeds the maximum permissible value the system must be replaced. Checking mounting bolts To compensate for possible settling, it is necessary to retighten the bolts to the prescribed torque. This shall be done after no more than 100 hours of operation and without exte...

Slewing drive installation process

Image
Cleaning the slewing drive and the mounting structure: • Remove extraneous material from supporting surfaces (including paint residues, welding beads, burr formation). Clear corrosion protection coating from supporting surfaces of the slewing drive. Cleaning material does not penetrate into the slewing drive. Cleaning material that attacks the sealing material is not used. Applicable cleaning materials: Cold solvents (e.g. white spirit, diesel oil, Kaltryl KEV). Lubricating the slewing drive: • slewing drive are supplied fully lubricated. They shall be greased again prior to initial operation. It is essential to use the greases specified on the delivery drawing. Choice of mounting bolts: Prescribed sizes, number and quality grades shall be used. • Grip ratio (grip length to diameter of bolt) shall be observed from minimum ≥5 to maximum ≤10. • Bolts with a fully threaded shaft are not permissible. • The function and lifespan as well as the durability of the bolt connection are aff...

Some technical information about the slewing drive

Image
This system ( slewing bearing driven by a worm screw) is a complete assembly and is ready for installation. And furthermore can be very easily integrated into existing applications.  It consists of a ball bearing or rollers capable of simultaneously withstanding axial, radial and moment loads, a hydraulic or electric motor to generate relative movement between the two rings, and a fully enclosed coating protecting the ring from contamination, damage and loss of lubricant.  Moreover, with these assemblies the installation of components is avoided and is available in a comprehensive range of several standard sizes. In the following Figure all the components which make up the entire assembly can be discerned. From among its main advantages the following can be highlighted: • It is very compact, making it suitable for installations requiring space saving. • Having a very high load capacity in a very compact design. • Having a long service life. • Having low maintenance costs. • A...

How does the spur gear slew drive realize self-locking?

Image
Spur gear slew drive is often referred to as spur gear slewing drive. The transmission principle is a reduction device that rotates the gear ring of the slewing bearing through a pinion. It is easy to come to a conclusion from the transmission principle, the spur gear slew drive cannot self-locking, if you want to achieve exact stop, you must use a braking device to lock it. The following are five spur gear slew drive locking methods designed by U-TRSM. 1.The spur gear slew drive driven by a servo motor, under the condition of small inertia, the spur gear slew drive is usually locked by the servo motor's exact stop. The locking force of the servo motor is amplified by the gear ratio of the planetary reducer and the spur gear slew drive, finally reflected on the turntable, the final locking force on the turntable is still very large, which is very suitable for small inertia conditions. 2.The spur gear slew drive that using hydraulic motor, during use, the hydraulic motor can be bra...

Comparison of slewing ring and spur gear slew drive used in truck crane

Image
Truck with loading crane, referred to as truck crane, are a kind of lifting mechanism installed on a cargo truck for the purpose of loading or lifting goods. The lifting mechanism can be lifted up and down, expanded and rotated, the goods can be flexibly lifted and placed in a designated position. The rotation of the lifting mechanism is realized on a slewing ring or a slew drive. The above picture shows a common lifting mechanism with slewing rings. The slewing ring with external gears is equipped with a yellow protective cover to protect the operator and at the same time to protect the equipment. Near the rotating mechanism in the picture, grease is flowing everywhere, quickly losing, the equipment is messy, the grease is contaminated and lost, resulting in frequent grease filling, high maintenance costs and high equipment failure rates. The spur gear slew drive of U-TRSM can solve the above mentioned problems for customers. Spur gear slew drive is also called gear type slew drive, ...

Overview of Global Slewing Drive Market Analysis

The global slewing drives market attained a value of USD 2 billion in 2020. The slew drives market is further expected to grow in the forecast period of 2021-2026 at a CAGR of 4.5% to reach USD 2.7 billion by 2026. The slewing drives market is expected to be driven by the rising construction sector and a growing adoption of solar-powered energy alternatives. The Asia Pacific is a key market in the industry due to the rising construction industry and growing industrialisation within the region. The single axis slewing drives dominated the regional market in 2020. The slewing drive refers to a gearbox that transmits a torque required for rotation while keeping the axial and radial loads held safely. Based on its axis types, the slewing drives market can be segmented into: Single Axis Dual Axis Multiple Axis By gear, the industry can be bifurcated into: Worm Gear slew drive Spur Gear slew drive The slewing drives market can be broadly categorised on the basis of its applications seg...

What matters should be paid attention to when using slew drive?

Due to the slew drive is usually used as a general component of large scale equipment, therefore the slewing drive product is in a component assembly state when it is delivered to the user, it needs to be connected and assembled with the host when it is delivered to the complete machine manufacturer. In this process, especially for the closed structure slew drive, because the connection between the housing and the internal transmission part and the connection between the entire slewing drive and the host use the same set of connecting holes, so when the slewing drive leaves the factory, there is already a pre-connection between the housing and the internal transmission parts.   This connection involves the transmission clearance and position adjustment of the internal transmission parts of the slewing drive. Therefore, when connecting with the host, need to keep these pre-connections in the same set of flange holes. The other holes reserved by the manufacturer of the slew drive for...
